Hellas
You might have noticed that my blog posting has been a bit delayed recently. I do apologize for that, I’ve been on thesis research/vacation in Greece for the past month or so, so I’ve had somewhat limited internet access. My travels were action packed though, I had a great time on my Herculean journey through the land of Hydrae, Titans, and Nymphs.
It actually started in Amsterdam, with a day layover. I met up with HeavenGames Chief Operations Officer - Jayhawk - and we drank many beers and ate many stroopwafels. At the end of the day, I bid Jay farewell and made my way to Athens. Athens was a grand olde tyme, checked out the Acropolis, Archaeological Museum, and Socrates’ prison. Ballin.
Off to Corfu, where there was beach, kayaking, and some good old-fashioned partying. I followed Corfu with up with a retreat to the mountains of Delphi. Hanging out with the gods for a couple days was pretty cool; I had a great time checking out all of the ruins hiking around. Afterwards, I met up with a Scottish mate in Athens and we went on to the Cyclades. First, Mykonos. Beaches, revelry, and getting lost in the city that was designed to confuse pirates. Scurvy.
Then on to Delos, which had the entire city intact except for the top halves of the buildings. Very cool.
Naxos was my next stop, where I checked out the archaeological museum right in the middle of a Venetian Castle and partied with many Germans. They certainly do know how to drink, oy.
Ios was my favorite stop. I accidentally came across what turned out to be Early Bronze Age (3000 BC) buildings, just sitting around above the beach.
Finally, Santorini. One of the best candidates for the lost city of Atlantis was wicked cool; volcanic caldera, beautiful sunsets, and black sand beaches. Rockin.
After Santorini, I took a ferry ride back to Athens and then flew back to the states. It was an awesome trip but I’m ready to get back to work…though I did spend a lot of time planning out HeavenGames’ future. I actually got withdrawls from work, so I carried around a pad and paper and did quite a lot of work for HG any chance I could, even when I was at the beach. I’m a sick person. You’ll start to see more on HG’s future in the next couple days, keep the ole eyes peeled!
